SKIN PEELS / RESURFACERS
INTRODUCTION
A procedure where a chemical solution is applied to the skin causing a reaction that will dissolve old, damaged and dead skin cells from the surface. Aiming to increase cellular turnover with huge benefits of rejuvenation and maintaining skin health.
The treatment stimulates cell growth ‘new skin’ and collagen production, helping to reveal fresher, clearer, brighter and more even toned skin.
Skin resurfacers and peel treatments make use of acids and enzymes and vary in strength. Choosing the right one depends on the desired outcome, skin condition, skin tone and the target depth (superficial, medium or deep).
Using acids to promote skin peeling and rejuvenation is a method that has been used for centuries.
Chemical peels are among the most effective and efficient ways to maintain skin health.
FAQ
.
HOW DO SKIN PEEL/RESURFACERS WORK?
Your skin sheds millions of skin cells every day but the shedding process can slow down dramatically as we age. Damage from sun exposure, genetics and extrinsic factors can result in skin imperfections.
A chemical peel removes multiple layers of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin causing a small trauma which stimulates the skin to repair itself and bring healthy new cells to the surface, resulting in smoother, healthier, plumper and even-toned skin.
It can be used to help treat:
- Acne
- Enlarged pores
- Hyperpigmentation
- Fine lines/wrinkles
- Sun damaged skin
HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY TIME?
This can depend on the strength of the peel.
Resurfacing or superficial peels usually experience very little downtime, possibly redness immediately afterwards, some dryness or flaking over course of a few days.
Medium depth peels use stronger concentrations of acids which penetrate more deeply into the skin, creating moderate downtime, burning sensation, mild swelling, redness, peeling which can last for 5-10 days depending on how quick the skin heals.
Deep peels are not undertaken in this clinic due to higher risks of complications and the necessity to manage pain relief and healing of the skin.
DOES IT HURT?
Commonly tingling, tightness or a change in temperature skin feeling ‘heat’ lasting minutes is usual.
IS THE TREATMENT SAFE?
Yes in the correct hands of trained professionals who have undertaken specialist training. Appropriate skin & health assessments, the use of recommended skin care pre and post procedure will reduce potential risks. These treatments essentially expose a new layer of skin that initially is unprotected and sensitive and it is important you follow the post care advise.
HOW LONG WILL THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
The treatment takes around 40- 60 minutes.
WILL I SEE RESULTS QUICKLY?
Usually visible improvements are seen in your skin after one treatment yet best results are obtained following multiple treatments over time.
Just as it takes time for skin damage to accumulate it takes time to reverse.
WHO CAN HAVE THE TREATMENT?
This treatment is for both men and women over the age of 18 years following a medical assessment and deemed to be appropriate for skin concern and health.
Exclusions: Pregnancy, breastfeeding or allergies to any of the peel ingredients.
HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST?
Superficial Peels are the mildest of peels and require a course usually 6 treatments 1-2 weeks apart and then one maintenance peel 1-2 months’ time.
Medium depth peels are usually a single treatment and effects last over 6 months- 12 months.
