In 2010, the Friends star Courteney Cox-Arquette admitted to the use of Botox and this seemed to make talking about the treatment more acceptable. In our eight years of business in Leeds, we have certainly seen a shift over the last few years where Botox is not so secreted. So, what did one of the most recognisable TV actresses in the world say;
The actress admitted to the regular use of Botox and confirmed she’d had facial fillers in an interview with InStyle US, saying: ‘Ageing gracefully is one thing, but trying to slow it down is another.

Attitude to Botox

There certainly does seem to have been a change in attitude towards Botox with more than 6 million Botox treatments administered each year. The cosmetic effect of Botox on wrinkles was originally documented by a plastic surgeon from Sacramento, California, Dr. Richard Clark, and published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 1989. After formal trials, on April 12, 2002, the FDA announced regulatory approval of botulinum toxin type A (Botox Cosmetic) to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Subsequently, cosmetic use of botulinum toxin type A (Botox) has become widespread with many celebrities viewing it as less intrusive and/or artificial than other types of plastic surgery.
In a recent interview with Dr Loong in Grazia, she describes the results that can be expected from Botox –  The results can be pretty varied: “It depends on how much Botox is used and which muscle is being treated,” Dr Loong noted. “The ideal effect that most of my patients are looking for is natural, subtle softening of the lines rather than a frozen look. Patients describe looking less tired, less angry and just like they’ve had a bit more sleep or been on a much deserved holiday.”
