Today is International Women’s Day; a day when women are recognized for their achievements and a time to celebrate the courage and tenacity of women all over the world from past and present day. With that in mind, Medifine had the privilege of exhibiting with Yorkshire Ladies Link at their International Women’s Day Conference today; meeting some interesting and inspiring women whilst showcasing our business.
International Women’s Day is annually held on March 8 to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. A time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. The first Women’s day started in 1911 and much progress has been made to protect and promote women’s rights since that time. However, still till this day nowhere in the world can women claim to have all the same rights and opportunities as men, according to the UN. The majority of the world’s 1.3 billion absolute poor are women. On average, women receive between 30 and 40 percent less pay than men earn for the same work. Women also continue to be victims of violence, with rape and domestic violence listed as significant causes of disability and death among women worldwide.
Melanie Malcolm launched Yorkshire Ladies Link in December 2012 after she found herself introducing contacts to each other enabling them to network and saw an opportunity to form the women’s network Yorkshire Ladies Links. One of the events is the International Women’s Day conference and after the success of 2015, it was repeated today. Both Jacqui and Lucy were proud to be representing women in business alongside 65 other business stands that exhibited today. We really enjoyed meeting all the attendees who visited our stand and the interest that was shown in our company.
Here’s to women all over the world today.
