Dermal fillers are one of the mainstays of non–surgical facial treatments used today; giving excellent corrective aesthetic results – ‘a refreshed and more youthful look’. Dermal fillers (unlike Botox injections that relax the muscle under a wrinkle) fill the line/crease or can also be used as “volumizers,” plumping and lifting cheeks, jawlines, and temples; filling out thin lips, and even plumping sagging hands.
How do Dermal Fillers work?
Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, a product the body naturally produces. As we age, our own hyaluronic acid breaks down, causing loss of volume and thinning of the lips. Unfortunately, we cannot stop the natural ageing process yet we can slow down the signs of ageing on your skin. Replacing Hyaluronic Acid will assist in hydrating the skin as well as filling, supporting and smoothing out an area of volume deficit.
How long will Dermal Fillers last?
The lifespan of each type of dermal filler will depend on the site of injection and the thickness of the ‘gel’ used (range of dermal fillers used will last approximately 6 – 18 months).
What can be achieved?
Dermal fillers are used to revitalise, lift and define areas on the face. They will hydrate and revitalise the skin by improving skin texture and tone; smooth out wrinkles, folds and lines on the face; emphasise a contour of an area on the face e.g. lip border; and add volume to shape the contours of the face particularly in the cheeks and chin.
What are the most common side effects?
There are common side–effects that can be expected from having a dermal filler treatment which are transient and will resolve within the first few days to approximately two weeks following treatment such as possible:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Some injection areas are more prone to bruising
- Stinging sensation, itching or slight discomfort
Rarely more serious complications have been reported and having appropriate medical training and accreditation is vital to perform these treatments and prevent these rare occurrences.
Who will perform the treatment?
Jacqui Hall, who cosmetically trained with Medics Direct in facial aesthetics in January 2008 and since has undertaken advanced training in 2011. Jacqui is an independent nurse prescriber who has received extensive training and gained various accreditation’s within the field of cosmetics; making her an experienced nurse working at an advanced level.
How much do Dermal Fillers cost?
Prices start from £160. The price is dependent on which product is used and how much of that product is required.
